Excessive heat and no rainfall in the Mangwe district of Zimbabwe meant farming families had no harvests from their wilting fields and their livestock died. They were forced to cut back from three to only two meals a day, and children’s nutrition suffered terribly.
Save the Children installed a solar-powered water system, which now provides water to the school and entire community. Livestock now have water troughs and access to water at school has enabled a nutrition garden, which supports the school lunch program for more than 550 children.
