RICHARD STURSBERG

BOARD CHAIR

Richard is a Canadian Media Executive with more than 30 years of experience. He has been the head of all English language services at the CBC, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, Chairman of the Canadian Television Fund, President of Starchoice and Cancom, President of the Canadian Cable Television Association, and Assistant Deputy Minister of Culture and Broadcasting for the Government of Canada. He is currently President of Aljess, a boutique media and entertainment consulting firm. Richard is also the author of The Tower of Babble, published in 2012, and named one of the best books of the year by The Globe and Mail.

DAVID MASSE

CO-VICE CHAIR

David is former Senior Director, at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In a career that has spanned 30 years dedicated to public broadcasting, David has worked in all genre of television production. He has worked on numerous major sporting events including nine Olympic Games, and was a member of the International Olympic Committee’s Television and Radio Commission. He is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Award for his efforts in support of Right To Play. For the last fifteen years, he has travelled to Colorado to teach leadership skills to teens from around the world at Outward Bound.

DAVID ROZEE, CPA

TREASURER

David is a partner with Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, in their National Assurance Quality & Methodology Group and Toronto Assurance Services Practice. David has more than 25 years of public practice experience serving Canadian and U.S. multi-national public companies and Canadian private companies. In addition to his client responsibilities, David has had numerous practice management roles in Human Capital management, internal controls and audit methodology development. As a parent of a young family, and having grown up living in various countries around the world, David has a particular interest in organizations supporting child development.

DAN MILLS

Dan is the Vice Chair at Northwater Capital in Toronto, and has more than 30 years of experience in capital markets, including substantial direct experience in trading, transaction management, mandate compliance and risk management. Before joining Northwater in 1997, he was a senior portfolio manager with the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). He is a graduate of Western University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute and is a member of the Toronto CFA Society.

STEVE YUZPE

Steve was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Sprott Resource Holdings Inc., including its predecessor companies, in 2013. He is currently the chairman of Beretta Farms Inc., and a director of InPlay Oil Corp. Mr. Yuzpe is also involved with Save the Children Canada and is the Chairman at The York School. Mr. Yuzpe holds a Bachelor of Science, Engineering (Mechanical) degree from Queen’s University along with the Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) and a Masters in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario. Mr. Yuzpe is a CFA® charterholder and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

JEAN TEILLET

Jean is Senior Counsel with Pape Salter Teillet LLP. She is a leading lawyer on Indigenous rights law and also works on reproductive rights law. She is Vice Chair of Indspire and on the board of the Association for Canadian Studies. In 2016, the Association of Ontario Midwives made Jean an honorary lifetime member. She has three honorary doctorates. She was made Indigenous Peoples Council by the Indigenous Bar Association and granted the Order of the Métis Nation. Jean is a published author and frequent lecturer on Indigenous issues. She is the great grand niece of Louis Riel.

JENNIFER GILLIVAN

Jennifer is President and CEO of the IWK Health Centre Foundation. Before joining the IWK Foundation, Jennifer worked for fourteen years at the CBC at the regional and national level. Jennifer was appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada to serve as a member of The Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments in Nova Scotia. Jennifer is the Honorary Lieutenant colonel 3 Intelligence Company, Canadian Armed Forces.  Jennifer was awarded by Atlantic Business Magazine Top 50 CEO Award in 2014, 2015, 2017 & 2018. Jennifer was awarded as one of the Top 25 Immigrants in Canada. Jennifer was featured in “Canada 150 Women” in November 2017. Distinctive Women National Conference awarded Jennifer with Professional of The Year 2016-17. Jennifer was recognized nationally by RBC Women of Influence Entrepreneur Award.

ERIN BURY

Erin previously held senior communications & editorial roles at Betakit and Sprouter, which was acquired by Postmedia. Erin is a Financial Post columnist CTV tech commentator, and a frequent speaker with the National Speakers Bureau. She has appeared in publications including The New York Times, Inc. Magazine, CNN, & Canadian Business, and was named one of Marketing Magazine’s top 30 Under 30 marketers in 2012. Her claim to fame is being retweeted by Oprah – twice.

SYLVIE GODIN 

Sylvie Godin has a history of managing sensitive issues, institutional communication and corporate image. As Vice-President of La Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse du Québec, she became involved with the Canadian Council of Provincial Child and Youth Advocates. Lawyer by training she has also held management positions in various organisations including Canadian National, Bell Canada and CIBC. Her political experience with the Premier of Quebec, Robert Bourassa, have been significant such as her involment on boards including Place des arts and Douglas Hospital Foundation. She is a Board member of Centennial Academy.

CARL NICHOLSON

Carl Nicholson is Executive Director of the Catholic Centre for Immigrants Ottawa and the Catholic Immigration Centre Foundation, He has an extensive background in voluntary sector leadership and has maintained his own successful fundraising management consulting company since 1989. Carl is a graduate of Carleton University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive. Carl has served on many Boards including President of the Ontario of Agencies Serving Immigrants, and the Advisory Committee to the Deputy Minister for Immigrants, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. Carl has been recognized many time for his service including receiving an honorary degree from Algonquin College in 2018.

MARIA CORREIA

Maria Correia has worked in international development for 30 years, advising on gender and other social issues in some 40 countries across four continents.  From 1993-2016, she worked at the World Bank in Washington DC, where she held various leadership positions and specialized in gender, social development and conflict.  During this period, she made contributions to gender and social development policies, including co-writing the operational and bank policies on gender in 2003.  In terms of her conceptual and research work, the World Bank publication “The Other Half of Gender: Men’s Issues in Development” co-edited by Maria, was one of the first in mainstream publications to bring attention to the less visible issue of male gender. Maria’ interests recently shifted to the use of media, storytelling and entertainment for social and behavioral change. She developed and led the World Bank’s WEvolve Global initiative, which was launched in 2015 as a storytelling platform aimed at identifying, piloting and evaluating approaches that challenge gender-related beliefs, stereotypes, and norms. In 2017, Maria founded WEvolve Global Inc. with a view to continuing her work on gender and social change and curating a space for creative thinking and action on intractable global issues.

JILL ZELMANOVITS

Jill’s career has been dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women in Canada and around the world over the last 20 years. Through advocacy, programming, and mentorship, she has raised awareness of untold stories, removed barriers and championed supports that meet the challenges faced by girls and women. As the CEO of Girl Guides of Canada, Jill is keenly focused on delivering the mission of “A Better World, by Girls,” with an ambitious agenda of strategic change to deliver a value proposition that is attractive to contemporary girls and their parents. Before joining Girl Guides, Jill provided governance leadership as a Trustee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (“WAGGGS”), the largest global organization for girls and young women that spans 150 countries and reaches a membership of 10 million. As a lawyer who practiced in the private and public sectors, Jill’s legal expertise informed previous Board Roles of chairing Governance, Advocacy and Membership Growth Committees as well as being a member of the Audit & Finance and Risk Management Committees. Jill is also a member of the Institute for Corporate Directors and regularly keep up with the leading practices in governance.
