Thank you for your continued support to children – every day and in times of crisis.

2022 was another challenging year for children as the world grappled with the convergence of “the Four Cs”: conflict, COVID-19, climate, and cost.

We saw devastating conflicts, including the escalation of the war in Ukraine and ongoing violence elsewhere, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, and Yemen. We faced the lingering impacts of COVID-19, which affected children’s access to education, healthcare, and other necessities. Climate change caused extreme weather events that destroyed communities and took many lives. As all of this was happening, the rising cost of food meant millions of children faced unprecedented levels of hunger.

Despite it all, children remained hopeful and, with your help, Save the Children was able to respond immediately to emergencies and provide life-saving humanitarian aid to children and families in Canada and across the globe.

We also delivered innovative development programs to support children and their families as they    strive to improve their circumstances. We know that children living in crisis face increased risk of hunger and limited access to essential health services. They are also at risk of recruitment into armed groups, trafficking, and the worst forms of child labour.

Our targeted work in 2022 helped  this generation of children access equitable education  keep safe from harm, and fulfill their rights to survive and thrive.

We also continued our important work to support a reconciled Canada through the National Reconciliation Program (NRP). The NRP is dedicated to collaborating with Indigenous communities and organizations to improve and enhance the rights of Métis, Inuit, and First Nation children, who continue to experience systemic discrimination.

We launched a bold new six-year strategy in 2022.  This is built upon our vision to centre children’s voices at the heart of our work and strengthen our mission to defend the rights of all children. Our strategy champions four critical impact areas – gender equality, climate justice, Indigenous child rights, and supporting children in crisis. Crucially, those impact areas also guide the way we collaborate and work.

We are grateful to you—our unwavering and dedicated supporters—for everything you do to support our mission to protect and uphold the rights of children in Canada and around the world. In 2022, through programs and partnerships, we reached 117.8 million children. Your generosity helped  make a significant difference for children and communities.

Thank you again for defending children’s rights.
