While on the way home from school one day 13-year old Liliane* saw armed men coming into her neighbourhood. She heard neighbours yelling in fear and she quickly ran to find her mother. Liliane and her family quickly fled to a displacement camp to seek safety from the violence.

In the camp, Liliane does not attend a formal school and does a lot to help her mother at home. “As soon as I wake up, I do the laundry, wash the children, look for firewood and fetch water,” she says. Liliane does what she can to help her mother with her 12 siblings.

In the camp she does attend a Save the Children Child Friendly Space, where she loves to dance with the other children.

Liliane is eager to return to formal education one day to get back to learning.

“I would like to be a doctor when I grow up,” she says proudly.
