Laurie Wood Ducharme carries on her father’s legacy with work at Four Arrows

Working in the healthcare field was critical, demanding and challenging work even prior to the pandemic. Though, for more than 20 years Laurie Wood Ducharme has worked tirelessly not only to deliver critical services, but to support those who are engaged in delivering the services to individuals and communities. Throughout COVID-19, Laurie was instrumental in helping to ensure that Four Arrows staff and the communities had the resources and supports that they needed to get through the crisis.

Laurie Wood Ducharme, the Director of Administration for Four Arrows Regional Health Authority,

works tirelessly to deliver critical services and supports, carrying on her father’s legacy.

Laurie has worked as the Director of Administration for Four Arrows Regional Health Authority for more than 22 years. The health authority serves the four Anishininew Nations of Island Lake, as well as a growing population in Winnipeg. Laurie refers to the growing Winnipeg population as the fifth Island Lake community with their own distinct needs. Four Arrows is a growing organization, with a strong team of First Nations people. The organization is staffed with 80% Anishininew people.

Laurie’s work continues the legacy of her late father, Etienne (Ed) Wood. Ed dedicated his life to the betterment of the people of Island Lake and, more broadly, the First Nations people of Manitoba and Canada. Fluent in Oji-Cree and throughout a more than 50-year career, he worked to promote and revitalize Indigenous cultures in Manitoba. Stressing the importance of education, he worked to pass on the language and traditional way of life to the youth of Island Lake.

During Etienne (Ed) Wood’s 50-year career, he worked

to promote and revitalize Indigenous cultures in Manitoba.

Both Ed’s and his daughter Laurie’s commitment to the working in service of their communities continues to inspire us and we want to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements and dedication.

Four Arrows Regional Health Authority is a long-standing partner of Save the Children Canada and is generously supported by GSK Canada.
