Ismael*, fled his home in Sudan with his family when the violence intensified. His mother was at the market when the clashes began and she struggled to get home, but eventually made it back to her family. The family sheltered at home from the violence for a few days, eating and drinking the very little they had left.
The violence continued and Ismael and his family decided they had to leave for their safety. They fled their home and made it to a centre for displaced families. Ismael and his siblings were all terrified from the trauma and their mother was very concerned for their mental well-being.
“I’m thirteen years old. We have seen tanks,”Ismael says describing his experience.
At the centre for displaced families, Ismael is able to attend a Save the Children Child Friendly Space. Here he can play, learn and make new friends. Activities like this help him relax during such a stressful time.
“We play basketball, volleyball, we play with blocks and we draw, and we play football,” he says.
