Hunger should not be a part of any childhood

We all want a world where every child has enough to eat so they can do what children do best – learn, play, and dream. But as conflicts escalate, the climate crisis intensifies, and inequality in Canada and around the globe widens, record numbers of children face the threat of hunger.

WHAT WE DO FOR CHILDREN

Nadira’s Story

“I wish we had food and drink. So that my siblings wouldn’t stay hungry and maybe my sister would stop crying. – Asha*, 7, Nadira’s Sister

NADYA’s Story

“Once children have their tummies full, they can be more focused, more attentive — they’re not worrying about their stomach growling or being judged.”

Hunger around the world

The child hunger crisis is preventable. From Canada to Afghanistan, Gaza to Zimbabwe, and far beyond, children’s lives and futures are under threat. Right here at home, food insecurity and hunger are a growing issue, driven by the rising cost of living across the country and ongoing tariffs from the United States, as well as global issues such as the global food crisis.

Save the Children is working in Canada and more than 100 countries to address the hunger crisis. Through our programs and partnerships with local organizations, we help children and families facing hunger access essential life-saving nutrition, and support community-led, long-term solutions.

How you can help

Hunger is not a lost cause. Malnutrition is treatable and preventable. We have been providing life-saving nutritional support to children for over 100 years, but recent aid cuts mean there is a global shortage of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, which is used to treat severe malnutrition.

Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food is a special paste, high in micronutrients with 500 calories per packet, that has the power to boost children’s strength when they’ve been weakened by malnutrition.

We need your help. Save the Children is urgently trying to raise $2 million to provide 22,000 severely malnourished children with this lifesaving treatment.

For only $92 dollars, you can supply a hungry child with a six-week course of lifesaving peanut paste treatment.
