How you can become a champion for child rights

Millions of children worldwide are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection due to crises and other emergencies. You can make a difference in the lives of these children by hosting a fundraiser and becoming a champion for child rights.

Fundraising for Save the Children is an easy and powerful way to help make change for children in Canada and around the world.  You can share your fundraiser with your friends, family, neighbours, and co-workers, encouraging them to donate and support children living in crisis.

Creating your fundraising campaign is simple and you will have access to the tools you need to make it a success. You can set your own fundraising goal and choose an activity unique to you, like a bake sale, an athletic challenge, or a charity auction. Another great idea is to accept fundraising gifts instead of physical gifts at your (or your child’s) next birthday celebration .  Once you have an idea, you can rally your closest connections to support a cause close to your heart.

Jag Singh: cycling across the country for children in crisis

From June 1st to August 1st, Jagjeet Singh cycled  solo across Canada to raise money for children in crisis. His journey spanned more than 7,500 km, beginning in Victoria, British Columbia and ending in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Jag was inspired to fundraise for Save the Children because of the strength and positivity donating brought to his own life. By the end of his ride, Jag had surpassed his initial fundraising goal of $10,000 and has chosen to keep his fundraising page open to welcome additional donations.

Volunteers in Windsor: dedicated to children in crisis for more than 70 years

This dedicated force of volunteers was started by Edith Snyder in the 1950’s in Windsor, Ontario. Edith’s daughter, Barbara Snyder (pictured below), followed by her granddaughter, Lauren Snyder-Gault, took up the leadership reins over the years. Through various fundraising initiatives, including craft sales, contests, and musical concerts, the group raised awareness and money for children around the world. In 2024, after more than 70 years, they decided to end their fundraising efforts but left behind a remarkable legacy. The group of volunteers raised more than $500,000 for children in crisis, which is a truly outstanding accomplishment.

John Hillman: walking to support children living in crisis

John Hillman was super committed to helping children in crisis. As a WWII veteran, John felt compelled to assist children affected by conflict and other emergencies. In the span of four years, John has raised more than $470,000 for children around the world by walking his age in laps around his former retirement residence, Carlton House of Oak Bay in British Columbia.  This year, John stepped back from his annual fundraising walk. It was his wish that we keep his online fundraising page open, so that people can continue to contribute to it. John peacefully passed away in July of 2024 at 105 years old. His generosity and annual commitment to Save the Children was a testament to his dedication to helping children in crisis.

Max Keys is a child pianist and vocalist with huge talent and an even bigger heart. He has played during Maple Leafs’ games for 20,000 fans and also across Toronto at local events. Max was inspired to help the children affected by the war in Ukraine and also by earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. Using his musical talent, he hosts Instagram live concerts performing covers of all-time favourites by Adele, Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus, to name a few. Through his efforts, Max has raised more than $15,000 to date.

Andyhong: bike riding for a cause

They started a fundraising campaign and rode their bikes from Unionville to Ottawa.
