Nine-year old Aysar and his family fled their hometown in North West Syria due to conflict. They now live in a displacement camp but struggle to make ends meet financially, since Aysar’s father is not working due to an injury.  To help his family, Aysar collects nylon, copper and aluminium every morning before school to sell.

“I hope to leave this tent in the future, go back to my hometown and live in safety and peace. My whole life has been shelling, displacement and tents since birth,” says Aysar.

Living in the tent is very hard. When it rains, all of their belongings get wet and the ground turn into a swamp, making it very hard to move around.

Aysar is in grade three and is inspired to reach his goals regardless of his circumstances. “I am a dedicated student and hope to become a teacher in the future so I can teach children well,” he says.
