Save the Children welcomes new funding announced today by the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bill Chambers, President and CEO, Save the Children, said:

“Canada’s response recognizes that we must take timely and decisive action to mitigate and contain COVID-19. The funding announced today allows Canada to ensure a robust effort to tackle this virus both within and beyond our borders.

“From nurses, doctors, and truckers working on the frontline across Canada, to the aid agencies and community health workers responding to this pandemic internationally, it will take all of us working together to save lives and protect a generation.

“As a Canadian aid agency working with vulnerable communities here in Canada and around the world, we’re pleased to see Canada step up to ensure no one is left behind. We applaud the specific focus on meeting the unique needs of women and children, millions of whom are impacted by this crisis, particularly in conflict and displacement contexts.”
