Save the Children Canada is deeply disappointed by the Canadian Government’s decision to once again appeal the federal court ruling regarding compensation for First Nations children.

Continuing to take First Nations children to court isn’t congruent with reconciliation and prevents them from experiencing their basic human rights. Save the Children is committed to defending and protecting the rights of Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) children and advancing reconciliation through a human rights approach.

First Nations children and young people deserve more from the Canadian Government. Our history demands that we stop discriminating against them and start treating them with respect and honour. All children, including First Nations, have the inherent right to develop to their full potential as valued and engaged citizens within their Nations and Canada. We hope the Government will reconsider its decision and do the right thing for First Nations children.
