Save the Children President and CEO Bill Chambers said:

It is with great sadness that Save the Children can confirm that four of our staff members lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident that took place in Cambodia on Friday afternoon. A further four of our staff were seriously injured and are receiving treatment in hospital.

This is a truly heart-breaking event and our condolences go out to the families of all those who have been affected. Our primary concern is for our staff and their families and we are providing support to help them through this difficult time. We are ensuring that all of our team members get the best medical treatment and care possible. We are also supporting our staff on the ground, many of whom have been devastated by this tragic and sudden loss.

Save the Children in Cambodia reaches over three million children through our work in Education, Child Protection, Child Rights, and Health and Nutrition. We are proud of the work all of our staff in Cambodia do to make a real difference to the lives of millions of children and we are deeply saddened by this tragic incident.

We will do everything we can to support the grieving families, friends and colleagues in this tragedy.  At present we have no further information to release and ask that the victim’s families and our staff are given privacy at this deeply upsetting time.
