TORONTO, ON (December 12, 2022) — Save the Children today announced the appointment of Fahad Sami as its new Vice President of Operations (VPO).

Fahad will officially assume the post on December 12, 2022.

Danny Glenwright, President and CEO of Save the Children, said:

“During our recruitment process, Fahad emerged as an exceptional candidate. Not only a strong leader, but he is also visionary, collaborative, and caring. He brings a genuine passion for helping people – particularly children in Canada and around the world.”

Fahad comes to Save the Children with more than a decade of experience in the not-for-profit sector, including at the Board level. Most recently, Fahad was the Director of Finance at Genome Canada where, in addition to providing strong financial oversight, he also co-led the development of Genome Canada’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility strategy, and played a lead role in the development of a digital ecosystem framework. His impressive background includes roles at both Cuso International and the Aga Khan Foundation.  Additionally, he is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA) who has led successful strategic processes around change management and organizational transformation.

“I am thrilled to step into this new role where I’ll have the opportunity to protect and promote the rights of children around the world. As a person of colour with a disability, I’m particularly pleased to join an organization that is committed to the principles of anti-racism and anti-oppression. I look forward to further guiding its transformation to support more partnerships with local communities and decolonization,” said Fahad.

Fahad will lead the evolution of Save the Children’s business model to accelerate progress for children and meet the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes a full range of operations, including finance and accounting, IT, legal and risk management. His role also includes building on the organization’s profile with government, sector partners, and academia to influence change and drive new investment.

Save the Children is committed to ensuring children realize the rights to which they are entitled under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This Convention forms the basis of all our work in Canada and around the world. To achieve an environment where children’s human rights and needs are respected and protected, Save the Children’s programs and advocacy focus on child rights and protection, health and nutrition, gender equality, clean water, education, sustainable livelihoods, emergency relief and survival. In Canada, Save the Children recognizes that Indigenous children and youth have the right to develop to their full potential as valued and engaged citizens within their Indigenous nations and Canada.
