  Primary Job Purpose Communication Specialist will manage Save the Children’s communications, public relations and media outreach for the Youth in Action Program with the aim of encouraging stronger awareness, understanding and engagement and strengthening of the Program and Save the Children within Canadian markets.  To promote the Program and Save the Children and its work, impact and partners through a full range of media channels and support the marketing, fundraising, advocacy and program objectives of developing and reinforcing audience through the promotion of campaigns and public relation/communication activities. Youth in Action Communication Project Management
  • Lead the communication strategy and communications execution plan for existing major multi-country grant with a large institutional foundation. Deliverables include, but are not limited to: Digital management and content creation. Collateral development (digital, brochures, videos, post cards, infographics, etc.)
  • Manage the agency relationship and deliverables with all Youth in Action vendors
  • Dedicated project management to ensure timely delivery of all items
  • Strategic account management working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support and manage end of program learning event in Africa
  • Lead the development and planning of the Canada event in collaboration with SCC staff and YiA management
  • Collaborate with Communications Team with regards to Digital and other medium of communication for Youth in Action
Accountabilities
  • Adjustment & Updating of Current Youth in Action communications & publicity plans, including delivery of key actions and outcomes online / print / electronic over the coming 8 months. (April – Dec 2018 for online updates and communications materials creation)
  • Daily Updates and adjustments to all channels for Youth in Action communications and marketing materials as per team plan. (tactical updating support for online, social media and external communications)
Skills/ Knowledge / Experience 
  • Bachelors Degree required
  • 5 – 7 years in public relations, media and communicaitons not for profit exp. highly
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with reporters and editors
  • Extensive successful writing and editing experience
  • Demonstrated experience and leadreship in managing a comprehensive strategy
  • Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans/output
  • Self reliant, good problem solver, results oreinted
  • Excellent and persuasive communicator
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive team player
  • Travel will be required
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required (especially during global humanitarian Emergencies involving different time zones)
  • Bilingual (English & French) – oral, reading and writing preferred with other languages considered as an asset
Other Requirements
  • Passion and commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values. Previous experience with child rights programming will be an advantage

  • Subject to successfully completing a vulnerable sector screening police check
