Save the Children Canada is a federation of 30 member organizations jointly raising funds and delivering programs in health and nutrition, education, child protection, child poverty, and child rights governance in development and emergency contexts. RESPONSIBILITIES: Save the Children is looking for an accomplished student to serve as a Financial Support Intern. This individual will support financial reporting and analysis and program accounting activities within the Finance and Operations Department.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders including:
  • Support the Program Financial Analyst (PFA) with conducting annual audit and program audit
  • Support the PFA with: conducting variance analysis of budget to actuals to identify financial risks and flag anomalies the review of financial summaries for donor reports based on reporting requirements budget re-alignment and forecasting processes including review and detailed commentary of all draft budgets the analysis and monitoring of resource allocation on a quarterly basis
  • Support the PFA with Budget development process for the proposals
  • Burn rate reports
  • BVA Reports
  • Working collaboratively with Country Office teams, consolidate field financial results, preparing journal entries as required to allocate funds in adherence with SCI and SCC data standards
  • Perform year-end close activities and ensure all reconciliations are complete, accurate, and up-to-date
  • Prepare program balance sheet reconciliations and resolve differences between Country Office/Partner project reports and General Ledger on a regular basis, including deferred revenue and project advances
  • Support the PFA in completion of final project closeout reconciliation, adjustments and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong financial analysis skills with intermediate to advanced level expertise in MS Excel
  • Able to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member; must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and switch gears easily
  • Collaborative approach in working in a team setting
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
Other Requirements
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values. Previous experience with child rights programming / international development is an asset
  • Vulnerable sector screening police check clearance and full compliance with Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policies
