Youth in Action

Save the Children supports youth development and sustainable communities through the Youth in Action program. Youth in Action is a five-year, $39.8 million partnership with The MasterCard Foundation which will sustainably improve the socio-economic  status of 39,850 rural youth  between the ages of 12 and 18 in Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda.

The program supports young people who are out of school by providing them with education, skill-building and entrepreneurial opportunities in the agricultural sector. It includes:

  • Learning for Life which  incorporates the Literacy Boost program, is helping youth to develop the technical and life skills – literacy, numeracy, financial literacy, employability, and relationship-building skills – that are necessary for livelihood security
  • Taking Action gives young people a chance to start on a path that will improve their long-term earning capacity. This path includes continuing education, learning new skills in the agricultural field, or starting a business in the agricultural sector.
  • Mentorship and Aftercare provides youth with technical, financial and networking  guidance to  strengthen their chances of  sustainable success.
